Communications Coordinator

Role

As the Communications Coordinator, your role will be to seed the Fields of View story in the world! At Fields of View, we build tools to address complex social problems in a way to make decision-making and information more accessible. As the Communications Coordinator, your role will be to take the work that we do, and find ways of communicating in a way that it build credibility and also builds engagement. You will have to engage with complex systems, government policies and get an in-depth understanding of social development space, and figure out the best places and ways to communicate the work.

You will be anchoring communications and outreach for the organisation, designing and implementing an outreach strategy, conceptualising campaigns, engaging with partners to create materials to establish the FoV universe. Social media is one aspect of the work, but you would be required to think beyond, and explore other avenues.

Your strengths should lie in storytelling with an understanding of the communication landscape, and if you have networks in the media space, it will add up even more. Your knack for breaking down and narrating nuanced pieces around the civic discourse for an information hungry, ever-evolving audience will come in to be crucial, for this role.

Basic Requirements

  • Ability to tell stories.
  • Ability to take complex research outputs and explain it in a way that is understandable to a wider audience
  • Building networks with newspapers, magazines, journals and other types of publications where the work of FoV can be presented.

Additional

  • Having worked in the non-profit communication space would be ideal.
  • An understanding of social media metrics and nuances.
  • Interested in the areas of governance, vulnerability and sustainability.
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

Remuneration

Compensation will range from INR 69,575 (Including TDS) per month based on level of experience.

  • We will review your application and if we feel like it is a good fit for us, we will assign you a task. The assignment will involve a cross section of the kind of work you'll do with us. You take as much time as you want to complete the assignment, but we've noted that it takes on average about 7 days to finish.
  • If we like your approach to the assignment, we invite you to spend 2 days with us in our office in Bangalore, so you can get to know our team and work culture. You will also be provided a follow-up task to be performed during those 2 days. Once this is done, and if you like us and we like you, we will extend an offer within a week's time.

About Fields Of View

At Fields of View (fieldsofview.in), we use games and simulations to help CSOs make sense of their work around vulnerability and climate. We are a not-for-profit research group based in Bangalore. We have an interdisciplinary group with people whose backgrounds range from technology, art, social sciences, law, and policy.

FoV's work has been featured in Indian and international media, including BBC News; The Hindu; Deccan Herald; Deccan Chronicle; The Newsminute, CNN-IBN, Deutsche Welle (dw.com), a German international broadcaster, and Factordaily.

As our goal is to create bridges between Government, Academia, and Civil Society, we work with all three groups:

  • Government - Our partners in government include Department of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India; Institute of Plasma Research, Government of India; Tamil Nadu State Land Use Board, Government of Tamil Nadu.
  • Civil Society Groups - The civil society organizations we have collaborated with include Gender at Work, who works to promote gender equality in organizations; Sahjeevan, who works to empower disadvantaged communities in the Kutch region in Gujarat, India; Alternative Law Forum, whose focus is on integrating alternative lawyering with critical research; UNESCO-MGIEP, which specialises in research, knowledge sharing and policy formulation in the area of education for peace, sustainability and global citizenship; and UNDP Sri Lanka.
  • Academia - We have research collaborations with different Indian and international universities, including International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT-B), Bangalore; TU-Delft, Netherlands; Netherlands E-Sciences Centre, Netherlands; Department of Computational Sciences, University of Amsterdam; and Medialab Amsterdam.
