Navigating Climate Risks
Exploring Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Strategies Through Gameplay
Fields of View, in collaboration with Mahila Housing Trust (MHT), has developed the Climate Resilience Game to empower urban communities in Gujarat to plan for resilience against climate risks. This game aims to address communication barriers and decision-making complexities related to climate change mitigation and adaptation strategies.
These communities face challenges in three key areas: effectively communicating climate change impacts, understanding risk mitigation and adaptation measures, and making informed decisions about suitable strategies. The Climate Resilience game serves as a dynamic tool to tackle these challenges head-on.
Played in a physical format, the game accommodates up to 15 players divided into five groups. Its mechanics simulate different seasons, with players receiving a disposable income to allocate across various aspects of their lives. They can choose to fulfill aspirations, invest in climate-mitigating technologies, save money, or opt for climate risk insurance. As players make decisions, they experience the consequences of their choices, as both climate and non-climate shocks impact their financial situation and health.
The gameplay not only enhances understanding of climate change impacts but also promotes critical thinking around risk mitigation strategies. Through reflection on the outcomes of different approaches, players can identify effective solutions to reduce vulnerability. The game has undergone iterative testing and collaboration with facilitators and members of MHT to ensure alignment with the specific needs and characteristics of the community. By leveraging the power of interactive learning, The Climate Resilience game has the potential to contribute to the development of more resilient and sustainable communities in Gujarat and beyond.
Building Advocacy Skills
YUVA and Fields of View's Public Policy Training
Youth for Unity and Voluntary Action (YUVA), a non-profit empowering marginalized communities, partnered with Fields of View (FoV) for a two-day session on "Introduction to Public Policy." Held at YUVA Centre, Navi Mumbai, in December 2022, the collaboration aimed to equip youth with essential public policy skills. FoV conducted interactive sessions covering policy analysis, engagement strategies, and creative advocacy methods. This alliance combined YUVA's empowerment mission with FoV's expertise, fostering informed advocates capable of influencing policies that address societal needs.
