A quick recap of what happened from February 2022 to October 2022.
E-QLT: A tool to enhance social protection
Activity-based sessions to collect data as part of the E-QLT workshop in Maharashtra .

Vulnerabilities are temporal and dynamic in nature, and form an intricate web stemming from different dimensions, such as finance, caste, gender, education, health, and social capital. Schemes and policies are designed to help families and households to tackle vulnerabilities, but it is difficult to map how different schemes stitch together social protection for a particular household.

E-QLT enables us to comprehend the vulnerability of different kinds of households and map how different schemes and benefits stitch together a social protection net for that household. E-QLT thus provides a comprehensive picture of how different schemes come together at a household-level and lets us examine gaps in terms of social protection for a particular household.
E-QLT builds this picture by calculating a Social Protection Score. Like a credit score, a social protection score provides an easy-to-use metric to understand how vulnerable a household is, and what kind of schemes therefore can increase the social protection of a household.

DESIGN OF E-QLT: E-QLT uses a system dynamics modeling approach to model a household. It models the state of the household based on parameters related to demography, income, expenditure and access to various social protection measures, and calculates a Social Protection Score. There are three dimensions of the Social Protection Score; Health, Education, and Finance. The scores for each of the dimensions are derived by running the model for a period of 10 years, and Social Protection Score is calculated each month. This helps us understand the temporality of vulnerability along with its intensity. Any household with a Social Protection Score below 300 is considered vulnerable.

Shocks to the household are calculated by simulating their impact on the various parameters listed above. This would in turn directly impact their Social Protection Score. Similarly, the tool calculates the effect different schemes and benefits have on the household, which allows us to understand what kind of schemes and benefits are needed to improve their social protection.
