A Platform For Thoughtful Climate Action

We are thrilled to announce our new collaboration with Rainmatter Foundation

Tackling the climate crisis is a wicked problem. We need to change the way we ‘see’ the world, to contend with complexity; how the forests, hornbills, langurs, car manufacturing, and our children’s future are all enmeshed, interconnected. We need various actors, including citizens, civil society groups, government, philanthropic organisations, and the media to have an informed dialogue and take action. At Fields of View, leveraging our decade-long experience and expertise in designing tools and spaces for participation and evidence-based decision-making, we are building a platform rooted in lived experience and research for thoughtful climate action. Our initiative will strengthen the capacity of various actors striving for a healthy planet.

Coming soon!

Over the past decade, Fields of View has developed various games and simulations that improve participatory planning and evidence-based decision making for public policy. Building on these tools, we present India’s first experiential course, “Polity” for creating the next generation of policy leaders.

JOIN THE POLITY TO

Experience
Learn outside the book. It is all about experiencing dilemmas and conflict when it comes to policymaking.

Apply
The policy course is all about application. The participants will put theory to practice and learn through application.

Collaborate
The participants will be part of a cohort of learners, doers, and experts, and the learning process will continue long after the fellowship duration is done.

More details coming up soon!

Consider a woman based in Tumakuru who is a farmer. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, their income reduced drastically, as they could not transport their farm’s produce. With a family member becoming sick, it deepened their financial burden. They now have no way of knowing which schemes they can access to improve their social protection.

Now, what if there is a tool to compute the vulnerability of this individual and provide a roadmap on how their social protection can be improved. Our latest simulation E-QLT is designed to do exactly this! E-QLT will help policymakers and civil society to:

Map vulnerability of an individual: Taking into account both the location of the individual, as well as circumstantial shocks, E-QLT will comprehensively map the vulnerability of an individual. We propose to provide a ‘Social Protection Score’, an easy to understand metric that will help the individual understand their social protection.

Stitch together social protection: E-QLT will examine how different schemes and offerings by different institutions stitch together a social security net for the individual.

Talk: Is culture important to design simulation games?

While playing games and simulations, a player’s experience is often influenced by the culture they belong to. Does culture then play a critical role while designing games and simulations? How do you define a culture then and what entails culture? Bharath through this talk on 'Is culture important to design simulation games?' unpacks these questions using examples of games developed in FoV. The link to the talk can be found here

Webinar: Pucca House - Building sustainability into India's affordable housing sector

FoV in collaboration with Property Rights Research Consortium (PRRC) and Nudge Foundation hosted a webinar on our recently developed tool, Pucca house - Building Sustainability into India's Affordable Housing Sector. Yashwin, demonstrated the computational model and its use in determining affordability and sustainability in affordable housing. Dr Anjali Carol Mohan, Independent Consultant and Researcher & Partner, Integrated Design; Dr Anand Sahasranaman, Visiting Assistant Professor, Mathematics and Economics, KREA University; and Karthik Natarajan, Housing Program Coordinator, Hasiru Dala joined as discussants to this webinar. A short video on the model can be found here

Talk: How can Simulations and Games adapt for the future?

Gaming simulations during pre-pandemic times were often designed for a physical space where stakeholders have face-to-face interactions. With the new normal setting in, the delivery of games and simulations has been changing from a physical setting to a virtual space. The question then is how do we create games and simulations to adapt for the future? Bharath in his talk poses questions on the future of gaming simulations and cross-boundary learning in the post-pandemic future. The link to this roundtable session can be found here

Discussion: India Think Tank Forum

As part of the 5th edition of the India Think Tank Forum organised by The Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in collaboration with the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP), Lauder Institute, University of Pennsylvania, Bharath moderated the discussion on the role of think tanks in civil society and the challenges they face in contemporary times. The conversation was joined by various national and international think tanks.
