Highlights of September 2018:
- Bharath was at CEPT University Ahmedabad on September 3rd 2018 to talk about the applications of participatory modelling using games and simulations for policymaking and the work that is being done at FoV
- Bharath, Harsha, Srijan, Harish and Anirudh had a discussion with CiSTUP, IISc on September 7th 2018 about FoV’s work on urban transportation and also to chalk out a plan for developing an urban mobility lab for Bangalore
- On September 19th 2018, students from Azim Premji University were at FoV to understand the challenges faced by different agencies in meeting targets and the decision-making process between different agencies in the Indian energy sector. In relation to this, a session on the Indian Energy Game was conducted for them by Harish and Srijan
- On September 21st 2018, Vijayendra Rao, a lead economist in the Development Research Group of the World Bank visited FoV to learn about our work across different domains and for potential research collaborations with the Social Observatory, a part of the World Bank's Research Group
- We had our Annual General Body meeting on September 22nd 2018
- Bharath and Shambhavi were at CEPT University Ahmedabad from September 28th to October 1st 2018. Bharath conducted a game design workshop for the students while Shambhavi organised a session on Rubbish!, a game designed by FoV on solid waste management

- On October 3 rd 2018, the same day, a game session on Cantor’s World was also conducted by Harish and Srijan as a part of this demonstration
- The ‘Tell’ Tales workshop was conducted by FoV on October 4 th 2018 for the Bengaluru Design Week 2018 to invite designers who are interested in working with data visualisation and communication, to engage and have a dialogue around data representation in the social context
- On October 10 th 2018, Anirudh conducted a game session on Rubbish! for the junior engineers and research assistants working at the Advanced Centre for Integrated Water Resources Management, Bangalore to demonstrate the application of games as tools for participatory planning
- On October 11 th 2018, Vaibhav attended the NIUA consultation workshop in New Delhi and presented about FoV’s projects on integrated governance, disaster management and sustainable urban transportation
- FoV was invited to conduct the annual workshop on Digital Game Design from October 15 th to October 18 th 2018 at NID Bangalore
- Saswata and Debolina, Asst. Professors at Gurudas College, Kolkata gave a talk at FoV on the economic growth of India with detailed observations for the state of West Bengal on October 25 th 2018
- Anirudh attended the Ashoka #OneSolutions event in New Delhi on October 26 th 2018. The theme of the event was the need for empathy and collaborative leadership as a skill for bringing about social change
- FoV being one of the grantees, Bharath, Sruthi and Vaibhav attended the Global Development Network’s (GDN) kick-off workshop on 'Strengthening Institutional Capacities of Research Actors to Understand the Links between the Economy and the Environment' on October 26 th and 27 th 2018 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The meeting brought together the grantees, their Scientific and Technical Advisors, and GDN’s program management team to finalize the implementation plans and to stimulate a critical discussion about different strategies to support research-practice engagements
Highlights of November 2018:
- From November 8th to November 25th 2018, Bharath and Sruthi were in the Netherlands to conduct Masterclass sessions at the International Institute for Research and Education and De Haagse Hogeschool in partnership with Dr. Artie Ramsodit, founder of CitySolutions.nl, an organisation that offers residents and policy makers residents-oriented methodologies to come up with solutions for the city. Masterclass was for facilitators/game organisers who work with communities, and who are part of organisations or groups where they wish to conduct and use the City Game for participatory planning
- Problem mapping sessions were also conducted with residents of Rozenplein in collaboration with Haarlem Effect, a community organisation based out of Haarlem
- On November 9th 2018, Vaibhav was invited by the Sustainable Chennai Forum, a wing under the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry promoting businesses for sustainable development, to be the speaker at the UN Habitat’s ‘Roadmap to Zero Waste in Chennai’ Urban Thinkers Campus to talk about gamification in waste management and policy towards waste management in Chennai
- On November 12th and 13th 2018, Srijan and Anirudh attended the National Roundtable Review of the 74th Constitutional Amendment concerning the functioning of urban local bodies. The purpose of this platform was to facilitate dialogue and discuss the current concerns of 74th amendment in terms of implementation, participatory governance, finance, planning and its intersection with urban poverty
- A game session on ‘Made to Order’ was organised by Shambhavi, Yashwin, Selva and Anirudh on November 16th 2018 at Samvada Baduku Community College, Bangalore
- On November 17th 2018, Anirudh and Yashwin attended a public discussion on issues with elevated corridors in Bangalore and the need for alternatives. At this discussion, Anirudh also presented the work done by FoV on accessibility and affordability needs of the marginalised communities living in the city relevant to this context
- On November 28th 2018, Mousumi Mandal, Asst.Professor at Presidency College, Kolkata gave a talk at FoV on culture, liminality and folklore of the Sunderbans
